When I drew the leopard, I wasn't quite sure what I wanted to do for the background. I scanned the image on my computer and played with the picture until I came up with this idea. It occurred to me that I could do this on scratchboard but the background colors had to be just right. So rather than use scratchboard, I imitated the look by using pastel on the background and painting black acrylic over the negative spaces.
